A recent editorial by the Sun Herald called for more government transparency. Classifying Senate Bill 2546 as a “puny” win for transparency because it only requires the online posting of state agency budget requests, the editorial board requested deeper reforms. Its proposition:
“Each and every state agency should be required to pay for an annual audit out of its own budget and the results should be posted online for all the world to see.
That would be ‘a big win’ for taxpayers and would really permit them, as Reeves is fond of saying, ‘to see how their government is spending their money.'”
Would this help guard against wasteful spending or government corruption?
